Client onboarding, from new client to account opening

You onboard a new client across Wealthbox, Docusign and the custodian. Inside the Docusign workflow, the Fluidlabs app reads the client from Wealthbox and writes the signed values back. The advisor then sends the contact to account opening through the Schwab integration that Wealthbox lists.

Four ways a Wealthbox API integration runs

Each pattern uses an endpoint in the Wealthbox API reference or a step of the Fluidlabs app. A private integration we build and host for your team runs the last three and handles authentication, field mapping, retries and errors. Wealthbox throttles each token to one request a second over five minutes, so the integration paces its calls.

Steps inside Docusign Workflow Builder

Our Wealthbox app reads a contact or an opportunity into a Docusign workflow and writes the signer's values back. It records the signed agreement as a note linked to the contact.

Use it when a signature decides what changes in Wealthbox.

Scheduled sync

A job asks for the contacts and opportunities updated since its last run and moves them to the other system at the pace the throttle allows.

Use it when the other system can wait for the next run.

Live contact lookup

The other system finds one contact by email, phone or external_unique_id at the moment it needs the data, and it writes back to the same record.

Use it when a form or a planning tool needs one client's current values.

Workflow kickoff

An integration starts a Wealthbox workflow from one of your templates and links it to the contact, so the onboarding checklist opens when the agreement completes. Zapier's Start Workflow action also does this from a Docusign envelope trigger, such as Envelope Completed.

Use it to hand each signed client to the operations team.

Wealthbox's API, as we design around it

We took each fact from the vendors' own documentation and listings. The sources list at the foot of this page links each one.

Verified on 28 September 2026.

Authentication
Each request carries a personal API access token in an ACCESS_TOKEN header, or an OAuth 2.0 bearer token from the authorization code flow. Wealthbox reserves personal tokens for personal integrations, such as those to in-house systems, and for testing, and requires OAuth for co-marketing and release when a partner makes its app available to mutual customers. An OAuth access token lasts two hours and a refresh token 90 days.
API limits
Wealthbox throttles each API access token to one request per second over a five-minute sampling period and allows short bursts above that rate. A request over the limit returns 429 Too Many Requests.
Test environment
Wealthbox offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card needed. The API answers 402 Trial expired once a trial account has ended.
Marketplace listing
Wealthbox Integrations. Wealthbox requires OAuth for co-marketing and release when an integration partner makes its app available to mutual customers, and a partner asks Wealthbox support for OAuth credentials by email. FAQ

Wealthbox integrations, answered

What does Wealthbox integrate with?
Wealthbox's integrations page lists more than 150 tools by category. Custodial platforms include Charles Schwab and Fidelity, financial planning includes RightCapital and eMoney, and portfolio management includes Orion and Black Diamond. Other categories on the page cover marketing and document storage tools. Some listings, Docusign among them, run through Zapier. For a process no listing covers, a private integration we build and host for your team uses the Wealthbox API.
Is there a Wealthbox Docusign integration?
Yes. Fluidlabs publishes the Wealthbox app on the Docusign App Center. It adds Read and Writeback steps to Docusign Workflow Builder for contacts and opportunities, and it records the signed agreement as a note linked to the contact. Wealthbox also documents a Docusign integration through Zapier, which creates a task or a note, or updates a contact, once a Docusign document reaches sent, signed or completed.
Can Wealthbox store the signed PDF?
The Fluidlabs app does not upload it. Its documentation states that Wealthbox's public API offers no file-upload endpoint, so the app writes a note to the contact that can carry a link to the signed document. Docusign publishes a Box app that stores completed agreements in Box folders, and Wealthbox's Box integration attaches Box files to client records.
How does a Wealthbox integration authenticate?
Wealthbox's API documentation reserves personal API access tokens for personal integrations, such as those to in-house systems, and for testing. A request carries the token in an ACCESS_TOKEN header. Wealthbox requires OAuth 2.0 for co-marketing and release when an integration partner makes its app available to mutual customers. OAuth access tokens last two hours and refresh tokens 90 days, and Wealthbox throttles each token to one request a second over five minutes.
Which Wealthbox records can a Docusign workflow update?
With the Fluidlabs app, contacts and opportunities. A new contact needs a first and a last name, and a new opportunity needs a name, stage, probability, amount and target close date. The app matches opportunities by Record ID only, works with a contact's primary email, phone and address only, and creates notes without editing them afterward.
Can a Docusign workflow call another system's API without a custom build?
Yes, when the other system's API fits the step. On qualifying IAM plans, such as IAM Professional and above, Docusign Workflow Builder has a Make a Web Request step, and Docusign installs the HTTP app the step needs. The step sends GET, POST or PUT requests to another system's API. The Docusign guide "Configure a Make a Web Request Step" lists Basic Auth connections, and the Docusign overview, "Connect to Any Service Using Web Requests", also lists OAuth 2.0 client credentials. If your system's API accepts one of those connections and each call is one of those requests, a workflow can call it. We check that on the scoping call. A custom build covers other sign-in methods and request types, and work that runs outside a workflow.
How does Fluidlabs price a custom integration?
We agree a fixed price in a written scope before work starts, then a monthly hosting plan. You see both numbers in the same document. Nothing bills hourly.
Who hosts and maintains what Fluidlabs builds?
Fluidlabs does. The engineers who build a private app or integration run it, monitor it and patch it. You choose the US region, the EU region or both, and your data stays there. Docusign and the other publishers on this page run and support their own public apps. The security and compliance section on this page has our certificate and agreements to download, and a form to request our security overview.
